A 13-year-old boy from Emporia, Kansas was killed Wednesday after he and his family were in a crash two miles west of Branson.

The crash occurred around 10:24 a.m. on Missouri Highway 76, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report.

The report said Ace Garate was a passenger in a 2009 Dodge Caravan driven by Carlos Garate, 41. Also in the vehicle were Amy Garate, 37; Alina Garate, 64; and Mercedes Garate, 64.

The Garate family’s vehicle slowed to make a left turn, the report said, and was struck from behind by a 2006 Toyota Tundra driven by Gideon Dunn, 37, of Branson.

The other Garate family members in the Dodge Caravan all suffered minor injuries. As required by law, both drivers were tested for alcohol, the report said.
